Generate or Configure System Alerts
Learn how to generate system alerts or configure existing system alerts.
System alerts are a set of alerts for each analytic object that reference the analytic object's default metric. You can generate system alerts in the Alerts room in a project.
After you generate system alerts, these alerts compare the default metric values from data version to data version (DV to DV). By default, the expected range of change for each metric is -5% to 5% for a 6-month rolling period or -15% to 15% for a 1-month rolling window; however, you can edit the expected range, or disable any system alerts that you don't want.
Example: The default metric for Employee is Headcount, which means the system alert for Employee runs against the Headcount metric value. Let's say your organization sets Headcount to an expected range of -2% to 2%. Any changes to your organization's headcount value that exceeds 2% in any direction will trigger the metric alert when a new data version is generated and cause an issue to be created. If the Headcount alert is critical, any changes exceeding 2% in any direction will fail the data version and require an admin to review the data version.
Generate system alerts
- In a project, on the navigation bar, click Validation > Alerts.
- Navigate to System Metric Alerts.
- Click Generate.
- In the Generate system alerts dialog, click Generate.
Result: Visier generates a system alert for each analytic object in your tenant.
- Optional: Configure the alerts. For more information, see Configure system alerts below.
Configure system alerts
Specify the exact conditions of the alert.
- In a project, on the navigation bar, click Validation > Alerts.
- Navigate to System Metric Alerts.
- To disable a system alert, turn off the Enabled toggle. This moves the disabled alert to the bottom of the alerts list. If disabled, this alert will not be triggered in data load jobs.
- If the alert should fail the data version, enable the Critical toggle. If the alert is triggered in data load jobs, the data version will fail and require an admin to review the data version.
- To configure a system alert, select an alert and then do any of the following in the Configure tab:
- Enable or disable the alert. If enabled, the alert will check every data load job for metric values outside the expected range.
- Type a value to be the lower bound of the metric's expected range of change.
- Type a value to be the upper bound of the metric's expected range of change.
- Optional: Type a number for the rolling window period in months. If blank, the rolling window period is disabled. This is the number of historical months to exclude from the alert. For example, if you don't want to validate the past three months for the new data load, type 3 in this field.
- When finished, publish your project to production. For instructions, see Publish Project Changes.
