Job Architecture

Learn how Visier's job architecture is used to generate valuable insights from your workforce data.

Overview

A job architecture provides a framework to define and organize jobs consistently within an organization and across multiple organizations. Visier's job architecture is available on the Visier platform and supports Visier Analytics, HR Benchmarks, and Compensation Benchmarks. Visier’s platform is capable of enriching an organization’s employee data by matching its jobs to Visier’s job architecture. This process is called job standardization. For more information, see Data Enrichments.

Benefits

Job standardization to a shared job architecture, like Visier’s, provides a consistent view that allows for meaningful comparisons between similar jobs across different departments or organizations. This is essential for accurate workforce analysis of data related to specific jobs or job families and is especially important when using job-specific benchmarks such as compensation benchmarks.

Composition

Visier's job architecture consists of: jobs, job hierarchies, career tracks, and career levels.

Jobs

A job is a label that corresponds to the type of work a person does. Jobs in the job architecture are organized into one or more job hierarchies. Each job has a job name, a job code, a SOC code, a job description, a list of typical job titles that are commonly associated with it, a designation of a career track, and a set of career levels that are valid for the job.

Jobs hierarchies

All jobs are organized into 3-tiered hierarchies to enable categorization at different levels of granularity. There is a general jobs hierarchy that includes all jobs organized by similarity of job descriptions. In addition, there are several industry-specific jobs hierarchies organized by the business functions typically found in those industries. Currently, these industry-specific hierarchies include only the most relevant jobs for those industries, but we plan to expand them in the future to include all jobs.

Career tracks

Career tracks are an organizational tool used to group related career levels together. Each career track has a career track code, a description, and a defined set of career levels associated with it.

Career levels

A career level is a label that corresponds to the level of capabilities and competencies expected to be demonstrated by a person in a given role. Each job in the job architecture has one or more possible career levels associated with it. Each career level is assigned to a career track and has a career level code and a description.
