Make Source File Data Inheritable by Analytic Tenants

Learn how to set a single source in the administrating tenant to be readable by analytic tenants.

Note: Limited Availability This feature is in limited availability. If you are interested, please contact your Partner Success Manager.

Overview

Source file inheritance allows multiple analytic tenants to share data from a single file in the administrative tenant. This eliminates the need to upload the same file to each analytic tenant, saving time and ensuring all tenants can efficiently access the necessary source data.

For example, imagine a lookup file containing standardized internal codes and display names for customers. If you make this source file inheritable by analytic tenants, you won't need to duplicate the file for each tenant.

Note: Once source file inheritance has been enabled it cannot be disabled. To make a change the source must be deleted and re-created.

This approach is compatible with all upload methods. For more information about upload methods, see File Upload. As this file will be shared with different analytic tenants, be sure to remove all tenant identifying data from the file. For example, TenantCode or EmployeeID data. After uploading your file, you must create and configure a source for your data. For more information, see Create a Source.

Enable source inheritance

After creating your source, change the source's settings to turn on source inheritance for your analytic tenants. To enable source file inheritance:

  1. On the global navigation bar of the administrating tenant, click Data > Sources.
  2. Click your new source and navigate to Settings.
  3. Turn on the Enable source inheritance toggle.
  4. Click Enable to confirm your selection.
  5. Turn on the Enable source file inheritance toggle.
  6. Click Enable to confirm your selection.
  7. Click Save Changes.

Your source in your administrating tenant is now configured to enable your analytic tenants access. New analytic tenants will also automatically inherit access to the source file.
