Tenants and Profile Assignment

Learn more about user access to tenants and analytic tenants.

Profiles

Profiles define user access levels in Visier. These levels include core capabilities that a user performs, such as managing data, model, security, tenant, and other users. There are additional capabilities that they may also perform, such as approving or publishing projects.

There are two types of profiles:

  1. Administrating tenant profiles. Profiles defined for the administrating tenant define what a user can perform only within the administrating tenant.
  2. Analytic tenant profiles. These profiles define what an administrating tenant user can perform within the assigned analytic tenant.

Assignment

To gain access to any tenant, a user must be assigned one or more profiles.

Access to the administrating tenant

To perform management functions on the administrating tenant, users are assigned a profile in the Profiles list for the administrating tenant, found in Tenants > Profiles.

The following diagram shows the hierarchical relationship between three hierarchies: profile, user, and tenant. For example, if a Jupiter profile is assigned to a Jupiter user, the user gains management functions for the Jupiter tenant.

Access to an analytic tenant

To perform management functions on an analytic tenant, where the user's credentials do not exist, users are assigned an analytic profile from the Profiles list for analytic tenants, found in Tenant > Profiles > Analytic tenants.

Note: This feature is also available through Visier's public APIs. For more information, see Profiles API.

The following diagram shows the hierarchical relationship between three hierarchies: profile, user, and tenant. For example, if a Jupiter analytic profile is assigned to a Jupiter user, the user gains management functions for Jupiter's analytic tenant, Callisto.

Access to the administrating tenant and analytic tenant

To perform management functions on both the administrating tenant and an analytic tenant, users are assigned a profile from the administrating tenant Profiles list and a profile from the analytic tenant Profiles list.
