Cycle Settings
Configure different settings to customize your compensation cycles.
Overview
As an administrator, you can configure cycle settings under Settings in the navigation bar after signing in. Here, you can adjust and manage compensation settings outside of cycle setup to align with your organization's pay structures and policies. Changes to these settings will only apply to newly created cycles. In-progress cycles won't be affected by these changes.
General
You can configure the following general settings for your cycle.
Compare to pay band
Choose how employee salaries are compared to their assigned pay bands. This comparison can be made using either Compa-ratio or Position in range, which will also be available as an attribute to build a cycle’s merit matrix. By default, compa-ratio will be used.
- Compa-ratio: This option compares an employee's salary to the midpoint of their pay band. A compa-ratio of 100% indicates that the employee is paid at the midpoint, a value greater than 100% shows that the employee's salary exceeds the midpoint, and a value less than 100% means their salary is below the midpoint.
- Position in range: This option compares an employee's salary to the minimum and maximum values of their pay band. In this case, 0% represents the minimum of the pay band, 50% represents the midpoint, and 100% represents the maximum. Any value that is negative or greater than 100% indicates that the employee is being paid outside of their assigned pay band.
Budget segments
Add budget segments when it’s necessary to control how a cycle’s budget is allocated to different parts of your organization.
To create a budget segment:
- On the navigation bar, click Settings > Budget.
- Select an attribute to segment your budget by. For example, Location.
Note: Once you start creating segments you will not be able to change the attributes you're segmenting by without starting from scratch.
- Click Add budget segment.
- Select the dimension members to add to the budget segment. For example, United States.
- Click Next.
- Review your selection.
- Click Next.
- Optional: Rename a segment by clicking the More actions button
> Rename.
- Optional: Remove a segment by clicking the More actions button
> Remove.
- Click Save.
Result: When you create a new cycle, any pay types you choose will have their budgets automatically segmented. For base pay, you'll be able to specify an overall budget or give segments specific budgets, as shown in the screenshot below. If bonus and/or LTI are included in your cycle, you won't be able to configure different budgets for each segment but there will still be separate budgets.
You can provide unique recommendations for each segment, including defining a unique pay philosophy for a segment when setting the overall pay philosophy, as shown in the screenshot below. Tasks will receive budgets for each segment, and managers will be warned if they go over the budget for any segment. Managers won't see a singular aggregated budget for their task, but you will still get a view of the total budget across cycles.
