Auto Promote Rows From Overlay Data

Auto promote overlay data for future planning such as office expansions or team formations.

Overview

A plan’s core metric (typically Headcount) defines the population segments that exist in a plan. By default, only segments with values for the core metric are included. However, you may want to add rows with zero headcount to account for future planning, such as opening a new location or starting a new team. If you have synced the limits in your main plan to overlay data, you can automatically add these rows to your plan. These rows must have budgeted values in the overlay data.

For example, you want to plan for an expansion into the United States. Currently, your plan has no rows for US states because there is no headcount data for these locations. The Finance team has provided budgeted data for the US locations, such as upper headcount limits. As long as the main plan is synced to limit and target data, you can use auto promotion to quickly add the US locations to your plan.

Note: The Auto promotion button is only available after your administrator turns on the Auto promotion toggle for the related plan input. You can promote rows in main plans and subplans.

To auto promote rows:

  1. Click the Auto promotion button on the toolbar.
  2. In the Promote Rows dialog, click OK.

Result: A notification will appear indicating the number of rows and inputs that have been promoted. The promoted rows will be filled with zeros.

  3. Click the Project values button in the toolbar and select the current period. This will pull data from metrics to the planning grid for the new rows.

Result: The new rows will populate with the latest values.
