How Workplace Dynamics Surveys Are Structured and Generated

Workplace Dynamics generates a unique weekly survey for each employee during the survey cycle.

A typical Workplace Dynamics survey cycle is 13 weeks (90 days). The survey cycle may extend past 13 weeks if an employee misses a survey. The survey cycle is complete once the employee answers all the questions in the pool. The most accurate results occur after 3 months of continuous surveys. For instructions on how to customize the survey and questions, see Customize Workplace Dynamics Survey.

Survey structure

The following question types are included in the survey:

  • Weekly check-in
  • Employee experience
  • Collaboration feedback
  • Collaboration skills
  • Collaboration styles

The weekly survey can contain up to 12 questions. Questions in the first survey of the cycle will be randomly selected. In the subsequent weeks, Workplace Dynamics will generate a unique survey for each employee based on answers in the previous survey and the remaining questions in the pool.

The weekly survey consists of:

  • 1 weekly check-in question. This is always the first question of the survey and is repeated in each survey.
  • 4 employee experience questions. Respondents will be sent different questions each week of the survey cycle.
  • 3 collaboration effectiveness questions about collaboration skills and collaboration styles. Respondents will be sent different questions each week of the survey cycle.
  • 4 collaboration feedback questions. The question is the same, but the colleagues that respondents are asked to evaluate will be different.

For a list of the entire question pool, see Workplace Dynamics Survey Questions.

Survey generation

Workplace Dynamics generates a survey 14 hours in advance of the scheduled delivery time for each employee. This means surveys will be generated at different times for employees in different time zones.

Note: Survey changes will not be applied to surveys that have already been generated. Changes will be reflected in the next survey.

To generate a unique survey for each employee, Workplace Dynamics analyzes:

  • The employee's previous answers about the employee experience, collaboration skills, and collaboration styles to determine what questions will be in the next survey.
  • The employee's collaboration circles to see who they recently collaborated with to determine the colleagues they will be asked to provide peer feedback for.

Workplace Dynamics will prioritize the categories that received the least amount of answers to determine the employee experience, collaboration skills, and collaboration styles questions that will be included in the next survey.

For example, we are 4 weeks into the survey cycle and an employee has answered the following employee experience questions:

  • 1 question from the Empowerment category
  • 4 questions from the Enablement category
  • 2 questions from the Reward and Recognition category
  • 9 questions from the Wellbeing category

In the next survey, Workplace Dynamics will select employee experience questions from the category that has received the least amount of answers. The categories will be prioritized in the following order:

  1. Empowerment
  2. Reward and Recognition
  3. Enablement
  4. Wellbeing
