Best Practices for Customizing Your Workplace Dynamics Survey

General tips and best practices on how to customize the Workplace Dynamics survey and questions.

There are many reasons why you would customize the Workplace Dynamics survey. You may want to:

  • Change or delete questions that don't align with your people strategy, corporate culture, or methodology.
  • Change the language and wording of questions to align with your brand and corporate style guide.
  • Add questions that help measure your HR strategies and their impact on employees.
  • Add questions that assess different types of collaboration skills or hard skills.
  • Change the number of collaboration feedback questions included in the survey.

Before you make changes to the survey, consider the following:

  • How many questions should be included in the weekly survey?
  • How long should the survey cycle last?
  • How many times should I ask respondents to provide collaboration feedback for their colleagues in a weekly survey?

The weekly survey should contain enough questions that will allow you to measure the current employee experience, but it should also be short enough so respondents are more likely to participate each week. To achieve this balance, we recommend a survey cycle of 3 months, no more than 15 questions in a weekly survey, and 4 collaboration feedback questions.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to make changes to the survey?

We recommend that you make all necessary changes before you launch Workplace Dynamics or prior to a new survey cycle. You can make changes to the survey and questions at any time. Keep in mind that surveys are automatically generated for employees in advance. Changes will not be applied to surveys that have already been generated. We recommend that you make your changes 4 days before the next weekly survey is scheduled to be sent.

What types of changes should I avoid making during the survey cycle?

Avoid changing the question text during the survey cycle. You may unintentionally change the meaning of a question which will affect your survey results. If you're unsure about the rewording of a question, we recommend that you add a new question to the survey.

Is there anything to keep in mind when assigning categories to my survey questions?

Please pay attention to the category that you assign your survey questions to as all answers to employee experience questions will be aggregated into categories that exist in the Workplace Dynamics module which will affect the Guidebooks.
