Build and Extend with Visier

Use Visier to enhance and extend your analytics experience.

Overview

You can build in Visier by modifying and adding to the analytic model. The analytic model is the structure in which you represent your data as objects to analyze. For more information, see Understand Visier's Analytic Model. Building unlocks Visier's full capabilities, allowing you to create, load, and manage your own business data and see workforce impact faster than ever before.

As a builder, you have the option to enhance your existing analytic model, such as customizing your purchased content in Visier, or extend the analytic model, such as building completely new objects.

Enhance Visier

Enhance is any work you do to manage your purchased analytic content. Let's say that you have employee data, metrics, and attributes in Visier. You can enhance your Visier solution by adding new attributes to Employee, modifying how your employee metrics are calculated, and loading new employee attributes, including new data columns or data files. Because you're adding to existing objects in your analytic model, it's an enhancement to the analytic model.

In Visier, you can enhance your analytic model in the following ways:

  • Modify existing attributes or add new attributes (properties, dimensions, concepts) to an analytic object. For example, add a Dietary Restriction dimension to the Employee subject.
  • Modify existing metrics or add new metrics. For example, change the Headcount metric calculation to exclude contingent employees from the population.
  • Load data into the analytic model. For example, load candidate data into your purchased Visier People® Talent Acquisition application.

Add employee performance data to Visier

Let's say your organization wants to bring in employee performance data to Visier to capture the performance ratings from performance reviews and get insight into the overall performance of your organization and how many high performers are leaving. Your organization already has loaded employee data in Visier, but doesn't have any performance data.

With enhance capabilities, you can add employee performance as an additional data file that maps to the Employee subject in Visier and load that data into Employee.

To try this enhance scenario, see Upload Additional Data to Analyze Employee Performance.

Change how Headcount is calculated in Visier

Let's say your organization doesn't want contingent employees included in your Headcount calculations. By default, Visier's Headcount metric includes all current employees. With enhance capabilities, you can modify the Headcount metric's formula so that it uses your business's definition.

You can modify any metrics in your Visier solution to make sure your business questions are answered in a way that makes sense for your organization.

Extend Visier

Extend is any work you do to build on top of your purchased analytic content. Let's say that you have employee data, metrics, and attributes in Visier. You can extend your Visier solution by creating a Learning Activity object to measure learning compliance in your organization. Because you're creating something completely new in the analytic model, it's an extension of the analytic model.

You can build objects in Visier to analyze any business problem, from sales productivity to marketing to development efficiency and more. To see the impact of your people on the business, you can connect your business data to employee data through references in Visier. For more information, see References.

Create expense report objects in Visier

Let's say your organization wants to start analyzing employee expense spending. Your organization already has loaded employee data in Visier, but doesn't have any expense report objects or data.

With extend capabilities, you can add employee expense reports and expense line items as new analytic objects with attributes, and upload data files that map to the objects. You can connect the new objects and data to the Employee subject using a reference so that you can access relevant employee data in relation to expense reports.

To try this extend scenario, see Create a Subject to Analyze Expense Report Data and Create an Event to Analyze Expense Line Item Data.
